4 Things You Should Not Do When Trying to Conceive
Pregnancy has always been a serious problem for both types of couples who are not ready for an accidental conception as well as couples who are trying to get a baby. Having a child is something that most people want at some stage of their lives. It brings fun and joy of having a loving family and being parents, but also it comes with a full package of responsibilities and hard work. If you are one of those couples who want a baby but are struggling, you should know that fertility is not a “you’ve-got-it-or-you-don’t” kind of thing. There are many factors that could affect your fertility. Even a little unhealthy habit or stress can throw your body out of whack and decrease your chance of conception. There are 4 things you should not do if you are trying to conceive.
1. Being Overweight or Underweight
Your weight before and while you are trying for conception is an extremely important factor. Both being overweight and underweight negatively affect your fertility. It is shown that underweight women usually take 4 times as long to get pregnant as women with a healthy weight. Overweight women most likely have insulin resistance which prevents eggs from being released every month. So before you start taking all the other beneficial and helpful practices like fertility acupuncture, have a healthy diet and get your weight back on track first.
2. Alcohol
Alcohol is one thing that you have to cut back in daily life if you are trying for conception. In fact, alcohol can reduce your fertility by half, and the more you drink you less likely you will conceive. For men, drinking is a common daily habit. Research has shown that alcohol causes a decrease in sperm count, an increase in abnormal sperm. Alcohol is detrimental for fertility in both men and women, so it is wise to eliminate alcohol from your diets for at least 3 months in order to achieve the best chance of conceiving.
3. Caffeine
It has been proved plenty of times that caffeine, particularly in the form of coffee, will cause a fertility decrease. As little as it may seem, drinking one cup of coffee a day will even halve your chance of getting conceived. What is more, 2 cups of coffee a day increases the risk of miscarriage. Not only coffee needs to be eliminated, but also all caffeine-containing food and drinks should be removed from your daily consumed diets for at least 3 months, so you could have the best possible chance of conception.
4. Smoking
Smoking has been proved to be linked with infertility in both men and women. Effects like sperm count decrease and the number of abnormal sperm increase will be resulted by smoking. The more you smoke, the more negative effect it will have on your fertility, which is the main reason why heavy smokers are more likely to take more time to conceive. It may be difficult for addicted smokers to completely quit smoking but it is recommended that the number of cigarettes should be reduced if you are struggling to conceive.
